Esser Lab is recruiting UROP students for several research positions this Fall semester!
We are developing a biology-inspired evolutionary machine learning algorithm for control theory, which aims to use state-of-the-art deep reinforcement learning techniques to tackle hard problems in quantum-computational climate change. We encourage students of all skill levels to apply, and we especially welcome frosh. No research experience is required! Experience in robotic learning, quantum finance, artificial intelligence, gpt-6 prompt engineering, and cross-domain interdisciplinary research is recommended. Coffee-brewing expertise is required.
UROP description: UROP students will be expected to work at least three hours a day on average, for seven days a week, on average. Our hour count exceeds the 20-hour-per-week paid UROP hour limit, which enables you to make more significant contributions to our lab. As such, this UROP is for credit. You will be cordially given the mandatory opportunity to attend all Esser Lab meetings, where you will be empowered to carry out your coffee-brewing and delivery responsibilities. Meetings are in building E182, which is a short 20-minute drive into the Hudson River from Kendall Square.
A bit more about our beloved leader: Professor Proph Esser is a leading pioneer in the field of research labs and development. He has attended several leading conferences, sort-of co-taught at least one class, and is the editor of Journal du qua voix L’Esser. I’m sure you will find Proph to be a wonderful mentor and a great friend, and he’s excited to guide you through your research journey.
As a UROP with us you’ll benefit from
- Resume-enhancing research experience
- Exposure to interdisciplinary approaches combining AI, climate change, AI, equity, Al, artificial intelligence, and AI.
- Networking opportunities via coffee chats at high-level meetings
- Potential co-authorship on papers accepted to the Journal of Computational Climate Justice (impact factor pending)
If this sounds like a subject you’re interested in, apply in three simple steps:
- Reply to this email with your resume. Make sure to hit “reply all” so that your resume is received by all.
- Ask ChatGPT to generate a cover letter for you. Make sure the letter indicates your interest in this specific project at this specific lab. Then throw the cover letter in the garbage, because that’s where it belongs.
- Fill out this Google Form indicating interest. Remember to hit “submit form” to submit the form!
If you’re interested in helping put the “quant” into quantum, we have another UROP posting for Prof. Esser’s edtech group and his fintech group, Fin Esser; stay tuned for details!
Happy researching, and remember that you can’t spell “opPORtUnity” backwards without “UROP”!
